Upon approaching his vehicle, the deputy encountered a man carrying a tire and wheel, presumably stolen. The deputy attempted to detain the suspect for a theft investigation, leading to a physical altercation between the two. During the struggle, the deputy’s firearm was discharged.
It remains uncertain whether the deputy was aiming at the suspect or if the suspect was struck by the gunfire.
The suspect, described as a man between the ages of 20 and 29 with shoulder-length dreadlocks, fled the scene in a later model white small to midsize Mercedes SUV.
The Houston Police Department’s Special Investigation Unit is conducting a follow-up investigation, while the HCSO will carry out an administrative investigation into the incident.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting and are urging anyone with information to come forward.
