September 3 is the last day you can apply for property tax relief, which could lower how much you owe.

May’s derecho left at least four people dead in the Houston area. An EF-1 tornado with winds up to 110 mph was also confirmed in the Cypress area from the storm.

The derecho also caused significant power issues which lasted up to a week for some people. Debris also piled up which took weeks, sometimes months for crews to clear all of it. In some cases, debris from the derecho was still piled up when Hurricane Beryl impacted the area in July. Beryl caused more debris, which only exacerbated the issue further.

If your home suffered damage from Beryl, the deadline is October 21.

Folks who sustained damage equivalent to 15% of their property’s value are eligible to apply thanks to a 2019 law.
