Here’s what we know about Harris County Pct. 4 Corporal Maher Husseini who was gunned down at stoplight

HOUSTON – As the investigation continues to develop in the shooting death of Harris County Pct. 4 Corporal Maher Husseini, here’s what we know so far about the victim.

Husseini was killed while on the way to work after a gunman walked up to his vehicle and fired multiple rounds at the intersection of Richmond Avenue and Fondren Road, according to Precinct 4 Constable Mark Herman’s Office.

The corporal’s identity was released once his wife, who was traveling back in from out of town, was officially notified about his death.

Herman said Husseini has been with the department since 2021 and patrolled the South-Central District.

Prior to joining the Precinct 4 Constable’s Office, Husseini worked for Montgomery ISD as a police officer. He started his career in law enforcement with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office as a jailer, according to state records.

Montgomery ISD issued the following statement:

“On behalf of the Montgomery ISD Police Department, we extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Harris County Pct. 4 Corporal Maher Husseini. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this incredibly difficult time. Officer Husseini’s service to our community and district will always be remembered with honor and respect.”

Husseini received his bachelor’s degree from Governors State University and in December 2015, he got his PhD in Administration of Justice from Texas Southern University.

In addition to his education in the classroom, Husseini accrued 1,437 hours of law enforcement education, including in fields such as school-based law enforcement, missing and exploited children, and child abuse prevention and investigation.

Husseini also ran for Montgomery County Sheriff in 2020 on the Democratic ticket. He lost to current Sheriff Rand Henderson.

Constable Mark Herman’s posted a photo on Dec. 20, 2020 of Husseini and three other new deputies being sworn in, where they started serving in their new assignments on Jan. 4, 2021.

He was recently promoted last week. A photo posted on Constable Mark Herman’s Facebook page on Aug. 23 shows Husseini along with five others who were honored and promoted within the department.

Husseini was reportedly promoted to corporal.
