Person in custody, being questioned in connection to carjacking and murder of 90-year-old Houston Navy veteran

HOUSTON – The Houston Police Department confirms a person has been taken into custody and is currently being questioned in connection to the murder of a 90-year-old Navy veteran.

The shooting happened on Saturday at the Lonestar Senior Living Apartments along Westbrae Parkway near Rainer Drive when a carjacker shot and killed Nelson Beckett.

The deadly carjacking happened right outside Beckett’s apartment building. His car was found 10 minutes away at a different apartment complex.

On Monday, Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced the state was offering a $10,000 reward in addition to the $5,000 reward offered by Crime Stoppers for information leading to the arrest of Beckett’s killer.

Beckett served in the U.S. Navy. His friends and family described him as a “very caring man” with his daughter saying he was the kindest and funniest man you’d ever meet.
