Local law enforcement officers gathered outside of Ben Taub Hospital Tuesday afternoon after the shooting death of a Harris County Pct. 4 corporal.
The corporal has been identified as Corporal Maher Husseini.

Harris County Pct. 4 Constable Mark Herman stood outside the building to update the public on the deadly shooting. Herman said Husseini has been with the department since 2021, and just got promoted last week.
What happened
KPRC 2′s Robert Arnold spoke with Precinct 4 Constable Mark Herman, who said the corporal stopped at a red light at the intersection of Richmond Ave. and Fondren Rd. while driving his personal vehicle to work. The gunman got out of his car, walked up and began shooting into Husseini’s car. The shooting was reported at around 12:45 p.m.
After shooting at the corporal and running off, a Houston Police Department source said the gunman returned and shot the corporal again before leaving the scene.

Constable Herman said he wasn’t sure if Husseini was wearing his full uniform, but he had his uniform pants and gun belt at the time of the shooting.

Law enforcement officers were sent to meet his wife at Bush Intercontinental Airport Tuesday afternoon, as she returned to Houston.
Officials with HPD said they received a 911 call from a witness who said they saw the shooting take place. A motive for the shooting has not been confirmed, but a source said it could potentially be an instance of road rage.
A suspect in Husseini’s murder was taken into custody in Galveston after driving his vehicle into the water.
A procession was held to transport Husseini’s body to the medical examiner’s office.
