The shooting happened on Saturday at the Lonestar Senior Living Apartments along Westbrae Parkway near Rainer Drive when the carjacker shot and killed Nelson Beckett.
The deadly carjacking happened right outside Beckett’s apartment building. His car was found 10 minutes away at a different apartment complex in the 12500 block of Dunlap Street.
On Monday, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott announced the state was offering a $10,000 reward in addition to the $5,000 reward offered by Crime Stoppers for information leading to the arrest of Beckett’s killer.
Further investigation by HPD homicide investigators, South Gessner Patrol Division’s Crime Suppression Team, HPD Gang Division, and the Texas Department of Public Safety’s Criminal Intelligence Division identified Arceneaux as the suspect in this incident.
He was arrested on Tuesday, subsequently charged and booked into the Harris County Jail.
Beckett served in the U.S. Navy. His friends and family described him as a “very caring man” with his daughter saying he was the kindest and funniest man you’d ever meet.
