As the weather gets nicer and more people head outside, one eye doctor wants you to consider safety glasses for some activities.
Landscaping
“Lawnmower blades are notorious for shooting projectiles up into people’s eyes. So you want to wear a pair of goggles that has full protection,” said Dr. Masih Ahmed, an ophthalmologist from Baylor College of Medicine. “They may not be the most stylish, but they’ll save you a lot of trouble in the long run.”
Gardening
There are some plants out there that have chemicals that can be toxins to the eye.
Milkweed is common in a lot of local backyards.
“So, you want to wear gloves, you want to wash your hands because otherwise if you touch your eyes with that can be really irritating to the eye,” said Dr. Ahmed.
Riding ATVs
Dr. Ahmed said one of the main injuries in kids’ eyes is tree branches.
Kids riding ATVs or running through wooded areas get scraped by a tree branch and without wraparound glasses, it can cause bad damage to your eyes.
Where do you get safety goggles?
Online, hardware stores or prescription retailers like Zenni. They don’t have to be expensive. Cheap glasses still do the trick.
