HOUSTON, TEXAS – Many people know the old, stereotypical story of the local fire department saving the mischievous cat that got stuck in a tree, which actually seldom happens for fear of diverting critical resources from a “bigger” emergency.
However, it still does happen, and two women and a lucky kitten are very happy and grateful that it does.

Now, this rescue does involve firefighters and a feline friend, but in this case, the proverbial tree has been replaced by a car dashboard. Yes, that’s right, a dashboard.
The Houston Fire Department came to the rescue of a kitten that had gotten itself stuck inside a dashboard after two women pulled into their station for help when they became aware that it was there.
Firefighter and Paramedic, Alexander O’Desky, along with Engine and Ladder Crew Six climbed into action.
They carefully took apart the dash to rescue the cute fur-baby.
The Houston Professional Fire Fighters Association said the incident led to the kitten getting the “purr-fect” name.
The little stowaway is now named Spartan, after the brand of fire engine at the station.
Everyone involved was very happy that Spartan was okay.
