BOLIVAR PENINSULAGalveston County Judge Mark Henry has signed a voluntary evacuation order for the Bolivar Peninsula ahead of Tropical Storm Francine.

The order, in effect through Wednesday evening at 8 p.m., was issued due to expected high tides and storm surge that may impact State Highway 87, the primary evacuation route for the peninsula.

Tropical Storm Francine is expected to have a significant impact on the North Texas coast, with the Bolivar Peninsula at risk of flooding and becoming impassable.

The elevated tides and storm surge are expected to make travel along State Highway 87 hazardous, potentially leaving residents stranded.

The voluntary evacuation applies to unincorporated areas of Galveston County on the Bolivar Peninsula, specifically in the 77623, 77617, and 77650 zip codes. Residents are urged to take precautions, consider leaving the area, and stay informed on updates as the situation develops.

A local state of disaster has already been declared for Galveston County, and authorities are monitoring the situation closely. Judge Henry has emphasized that further actions may be taken if necessary to ensure public safety as the storm approaches.

Residents should prepare for possible evacuation delays and disruptions in ferry service, and anyone remaining on the Bolivar Peninsula should be aware of the potential risks.
