Hurricane Francine makes landfall as Cat. 2 in south Louisiana with max winds of 100 mph

TERREBONNE PARISH, La – The National Hurricane Center says Hurricane Francine has officially made landfall in south Louisiana Wednesday.

Francine moved ashore in Terrebonne Parish, about 30 miles south-southwest of Morgan City, as a category 2 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 100 mph.

At the 5 p.m. special update from the hurricane center, a NOS station located on Eugene Island reported a peak gust of 105 mph. The minimum pressure measured at that location was 976 mb (28.82 inches).

Francine is forecasted to continue moving through southern Louisiana, weakening the further it moves inland. The storm is expected to bring impacts to Mississippi, Arkansas, Tennessee, and into the Midwest over the next few days.
