Recognize these guys? They’re persons of interest in a Houston teen’s murder

Houston police are asking for your help in identifying two men seen in surveillance photos. They want to question them in the fatal shooting of 19-year-old Michael Smith in northeast Houston.

Smith was shot to death at a park on North Wayside Drive on Aug. 28 around 9:10 p.m.

The two men were captured in surveillance photos—one wearing a light-colored hoodie and the other in a black hoodie.

They are currently considered persons of interest, not charged suspects.

A witness who was with Smith that night told police Smith was confronted in the park by a man they didn’t know.

The man grabbed Smith, pointed a gun at him, and then shot him before running away toward Hamlet Street. The gunman at the time was described as a man wearing a black hoodie, gray pants, and a ski mask.

Further investigation led police to identify two additional persons of interest related to the case. Authorities are urging anyone with information on their identities, or details about the shooting, to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or to report tips anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
