TIMELINE: Case of missing Missouri City mother, Karen Miles

MISSOURI CITY, Texas – KPRC 2 has been tracking the latest information in the case of 61-year-old Karen Miles, who has been missing since Aug. 21.

The Missouri City mother was last seen at her apartment in the Missouri City/Harris County area. She was a member of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo’s Black Heritage committee, a philanthropist, worked in human resources and helped people for years.

As more information becomes available, we will give you the latest updates in this case.

Here is a timeline of events surrounding Miles’ disappearance and finding answers as to what happened:

Aug. 21, 2024

Miles was last seen leaving from her within the within the incorporated city limits of Missouri City/Harris County. This was last date of contact her children has had with their mother.

KPRC 2′s Corley Peel spoke with one of Miles’ best friends, who said she was likely one of the last people to speak with her before she vanished. She said they had a weekly Zoom call with their committee, talking about an upcoming gala.

She said Miles spoke to her through Zoom at her apartment and that nothing seemed unusual. She stated that the last time they spoke was at 9:35 p.m.

Miles’ last Facebook post was at 10:35 p.m.

Aug. 22, 2024

Miles did not show up for work.

Aug. 25, 2024

Pearland police tracked stolen Arkansas license plates on Miles’ car using flock cameras. Police pulled over her in the H-E-B parking lot in the Pearland Business Center, where a man named Davante Clark was in the driver’s seat and Miles was nowhere to be found. Police arrested 28-year-old Clark on charges unrelated to Miles’ disappearance.

While authorities state that Clark had a gun in his possession, he has not been connected to Miles’ disappearance. At the time, Pearland Police did not know Miles was missing.

Aug. 28, 2024

Miles’ son, who lives out of state, reported her missing after he could not reach her. Missouri City Police Department intensified its search and issued a flyer to the public for information on her whereabouts.

Sept. 9, 2024

Miles’ children, John Miles and Janice Bond, held a news conference to give a timeline of their mother’s disappearance and made a public plea to help find her.

They said their mother who is diabetic and in need of insulin, was last seen at her apartment.

Her family said they are deeply concerned for her well-being given her medical condition and say it is unlike her to be gone without telling anyone. The family also released additional photos of their mother.

Sept 10, 2024

Missouri City police received a lead of Miles’ whereabouts that led them to the 16000 block of Blue Ridge Road around 3:30 p.m.

While searching a heavy brush and deeply wooded area, skeletal remains were found. The Fort Bend County Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy and confirm the identity of the remains.

Investigators said the discovery wasn’t based on a specific tip or call that led them to the woods it was based on “data” and two weeks of investigative work that led them there.

Sept. 11, 2024

New documents obtained by KPRC 2 detail that person of interest, Davante Clark, is also connected to two other Harris County Sheriff’s Office investigations on Oct. 24, 2023 and on Oct. 26, 2023.

Clark was named as a person of interest in a pair of stolen vehicle cases where the victims were never located.

Sept. 13, 2024

The skeletal remains that were found in a wooded area near a church and neighborhood have been identified as missing Missouri City mother Karen Miles, the Montgomery County Police Department confirmed.

MCPD released the cause of death as a single gunshot wound after the Fort Bend County Medical Examiner conducted an autopsy.

Harris County prosecutors have accepted charges of capital murder and aggravated robbery against Clark. It’s not clear when he could be transferred to Harris County to face charges.
