It happened just before 3 a.m. when the Houston Police Department got a call at an apartment on Greens Road near Imperial Valley in the Greenspoint area. During a news conference later that day, investigators said two responding officers were flagged down by a topless woman, who said she was assaulted by her boyfriend.

The officers then spotted the boyfriend, who was armed and on the phone. Officials said the officers gave commands to try and talk with him as they called for backup. We’re told the officers also repeated commands including to drop his weapon, which were ignored and the man began walking away.

Backup arrived but during this time, officials said they started giving commands but the man kept walking. The gunman was about 10 feet from of the officers, so “in fear for their lives,” they fired their weapons. It’s unclear if the armed man shot at those officers, but is part of an ongoing investigation.

Police said the gunman was hit several times in hitting the gunman in the torso and was rushed to the hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

As part of the investigation, officers are looking into whether there’s a record of domestic violence, meanwhile, the officers who fired their weapons have been placed on administrative leave (per policy) while an internal investigation is conducted.
