HOUSTON – A woman celebrating one of her children’s birthdays was shot and killed in east Houston, where police say the children’s father is the suspect in the case.
The Houston Police Department said it happened on Locksley Road near Tidwell Drive and Wayside Drive, shortly after 8:30 p.m.

According to police, the woman was at home with her two children, who were believed to be 4 and 6 years old. Another man was also at the home.
“What we’re being told is the father of the kids showed up today, the kids were having a birthday, one of the kids was having a birthday party, and we’ve had calls here in the past about some disturbances over child custody,” said Lt. R. Willkens.
Willkens said they aren’t exactly sure what the disturbance was over Thursday night, but it escalated into a deadly shooting.
“Our suspect showed up, supposedly there was some kind of argument at the doorway, and again this is what we are being told right now, this is all very preliminary, but shots were fired from the doorway by our suspect, we don’t know if it was just random or at individuals,” he said.
The woman was hit by the gunfire and died at the scene. The suspect then fled the scene in either a white Chevrolet Tahoe or Suburban.
Willkens says they know who the suspect is.
“We feel confident we’re going to obviously find this individual, hopefully, if he’s smart, he’ll turn himself in and come tell us exactly why he did what he did,” he said.
