Die-hard Texans tailgaters mark 20 years being first in line, ready for Sunday’s home opener against Chicago Bears

HOUSTON – As the Houston Texans face off against the Chicago Bears Sunday night, fans across the Houston have been ready.

A few of the most die-hard fans lined up early outside NRG Stadium to make sure they got their spot to tailgate.

Early Sunday morning, super fans, Harding Yep and John Gordon, do what they’ve done every year; meet outside the gates. This year, the two were first in line.

“First come first serve in the blue lot so we always make sure we get our same exact spot each year,” says Yep.

Yep and Gordon have been meeting each other early at the stadium for the past 20 years.

“We’ve been working on this for the last month, debating what time to get here,” says Gordon, who showed up just after Yep around 8 a.m.

Gordon says, “Die-hard fans will do what they got to do and that’s what we are.”

Like many fans, they’re excited for the home opener and for the season to come.

“I know Stroud set the bar very high his first year so we’re real excited to see that,” says Yep.

Gordon adds, “With the talent we had last year and just there were really no expectations last year, but when they exceeded these expectations like you said, a higher bar, now we have more talent bringing in Joe Mixon, look at that guy I mean he did great last week against Indy.”

With another season upon us, it’s another year for fans, like Yep and Gordon, to make sure they start it off right.

“It’s just a bunch of people having a good time. Let’s get together; we’re basically a family,” says Gordon.
