Pipeline fire investigation

  • Before the investigation moves forward, according to Deer Park’s mayor, the fire has to burn off inside the pipeline.
  • The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality will continue to conduct air monitoring until the fire is out and the pipeline is fully depressurized. As of Tuesday morning, there has been no detections of concern.
  • La Porte Independent School District announced that all its schools will continue to operate as normal, but impacted families should make the best decision for them during this time.
  • Deer Park Police Department have initiated an investigation into the cause of the incident and will continue ongoing efforts.
  • As for the owner of the vehicle that struck the pipeline, investigators are working to positively identify the driver.

What’s next for residents?

  • Energy Transfer, the oil and gas company who owns the pipeline, stated that it will help take care of impacted landowners and will provide lodging at area hotels. The company said this will continue until evacuation orders are lifted.
  • Homeowner still needing assistance can call 855-430-4491 or send an email to laporteresponse@energytransfer.com. You will be asked to provide your name, phone number, address and what assistance you are needing.
  • Residents with damaged homes and cars should immediately take pictures of the damages and file a claim with their insurance.
  • Existing road closures, including the evacuation area, will remain in effect until the area is safe and cleared. An update will be provided when Spencer Highway between Canada and Underwood will reopen.
  • CenterPoint Energy says power has been restored to most of the customers who were lost service. Once it is safe to do so, the company says they will gain access to their equipment closer to the incident and continue restoration for the remaining customers who are able to receive power. The company will also inspect their natural gas assets and assess damage to transmission and distribution power lines, poles and equipment resulting from the heat from the fire.
