Channelview ISD student who threatened to ‘shoot up the school’ appears in court

CHANNELVIEW, Texas – A Channelview Independent School District student continues to face real-life consequences after admitting to making threats against her school, according to the Harris County Pct. 3 Deputy Constable’s Office.

Andrea Torres, an 18-year-old Channelview High School student, has been charged with felony terroristic threats.

Deputies responded to the high school after being notified of a threat to “shoot up the school.” The threat was sent to another student using a communications app.

The threat was investigated, and deputies identified Torres as the person responsible for making the threat.

When questioned, Torres reportedly admitted to making the threat as well as threatening another student. She was eventually arrested and taken to the Harris County Jail and booked into the detention facility.

Torres’ court date has been rescheduled to Oct. 18, and she is currently out on bond.

In a statement, Channelview ISD said in part the district is working closely with law enforcement to ensure the school community’s safety.

“On the evening of Thursday, Sept. 12th, Channelview ISD District administrators were made aware of a social media threat targeting Channelview High School from a CHS student. An investigation was immediately launched and Channelview High School families were made aware of the results Thursday evening. The student responsible for making the terroristic threat was located quickly, arrested by law enforcement, and charged with a felony. As a result of the arrest and in alignment with the Student Code of Conduct, the student will not be on campus. We absolutely will not tolerate this type of behavior nor any threats being made against any of our students or staff.”
