Student stabbed at Houston ISD’s Sterling High School; campus placed on lockdown

HOUSTON – A student was stabbed at a Houston Independent School District high school, the district confirms.

A fight between two students broke out at 9:57 a.m. where a 17-year-old student stabbed the 16-year-old student.

EMTs were called to the scene and school staff acted quickly to provide support to the injured student, officials said.

The injured student was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The 17-year-old student was detained and taken into custody, authorities said. The weapon involved was confiscated and no other students were injured during this incident.

WATCH NEWS CONFERENCE:

The campus was placed in lockdown mode but has since been lifted.

Parents and guardians who reported to the Morefield Boys and Girls Club Sunrise Center will be directed to the Sterling campus to pick up their student. Those who arrive at campus will register with staff onsite, and their student will be released.

For students who are not picked up, the school day will resume as planned.

This is the second campus in the Houston area that has been placed on lockdown.
