Parental role in preparing kids for school threats after incidents across Houston area

HOUSTON – In the wake of a series of school threats and incidents in districts across the Houston area, many local parents are grappling with how to keep their children informed and prepared without causing any unnecessary fear.

Some are finding it difficult to balance preparing their kids for potential dangers while managing their own anxieties.

Parents now having tough conversations at home, explaining why lockdowns are necessary and how to stay calm in frightening situations. The emotional toll is real, as many parents worry about how to reassure their children while ensuring they understand the seriousness of the threats.

To shed more light on the issue, KPRC 2′s Andy Cerota interviewed Rania Mankarious, CEO of Crimestoppers of Houston, live in studio during Thursday’s 4 p.m. newscast to discuss safety concerns and how families can cope with this reality.
