Houston Police shoot man waving gun, pointing it at them

HOUSTON – The Houston Police Department said officers were involved in a shooting with an armed suspect who was waving around a gun on the city’s north side.

The incident happened in the 1700 block of Cavalcade Street.

According to Houston Police Chief Noe Diaz, they received a call from a passerby that a man was waving a gun in traffic.

Officers responded and arrived within a few minutes and saw the man who was walking away from them.

Diaz said the officers commanded him to stop. At that point, Diaz said the man pulled out a pistol and pointed it at officers.

Four officers fired their weapons, hitting the suspect one time. The suspect ran into a wooded area where he was later found. A pistol was recovered from his waistband.

Diaz said the suspect was taken to a hospital where he is said to be in stable condition.

No officers were injured.

The investigation into the incident continues.
