Six months, no arrests: The renewed push to find Jarvon Coles’ killer

Jarvon Coles, 18, killed at house party

He was an outstanding student and a standout athlete.

18-year-old Jarvon Coles was successful by any yardstick as a North Shore High School student.

But Coles’ life was cut short on the night of March 9, 2024, after he was shot and killed at a house party on the 4900 block of Fieldwick about 10 p.m.

In the months since, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office has poured in significant resources to try to identify Coles’ killer or killers but have not succeeded yet.

Friday, there was a renewed push for justice, an appeal to any of the 60-or-so people who scattered when shots rang out at the party to come forward with information. Anybody who has information is encouraged to come forward.

“What I will tell you in terms of motive, based on our investigation, as you know, these shots occurred about a block away during the cover of night and they were indiscriminately fired at the house, which indicates to us that, you know, this Javon was just an innocent bystander,” HCSO Sgt. Sidney Miller said. “Everything right now appears to be that this was just a person or persons that was trying to disrupt this house party.”

Sgt. Miller was among a group of people attending a press conference at Crime Stoppers of Houston Friday.

Coles’ grandfather took the podium to reiterate the need for witnesses to come forward.

But Braxton Coles, the family’s patriarch, also had another message.

“We don’t want any other family to go through what we’re going through. We also we are sponsoring kids for youth sports. We are going to give some scholarships. And, you know, we had a lot of attention on his murder. I just want to keep some of the same attention on the good that we’re doing after that,” Coles said.

The Coles family has established a charity to meet those goals, “Crash Out for Cause.” You can check it out and donate here.

If you have information that can help solve Jarvon Coles’ murder, call Crimestoppers of Houston at 713-222-TIPS.
