Officials with the Harris County Pct. 5 Constable’s Office say they were alerted to a pedestrian traffic hazard at 6:39 p.m., which appeared to be a call reporting the man walking on the road. At 6:43 p.m., the pedestrian was stricken by the passing car.

When deputies arrived at the scene, the victim was pronounced dead. The vehicle that hit the man was driven by a 21-year-old man who remained at the scene and showed no signs of impairment. Witnesses said the driver was traveling at safe highway speeds at the time of the crash.

Authorities described the victim as a man in his mid-to-late 40s, but he has not been officially identified.
