The City of Houston has unveiled plans to demolish 12 abandoned homes, some of which are connected to a controversial landlord who was at the center of KPRC 2 reports earlier this year.

Houston’s Department of Neighborhoods will reopen several cases against Richard Pfirman after KPRC 2 reported on a house on Locksley Rd. that was in such disrepair that its rat infestation created issues for the neighboring homes.

Although the Locksley Rd. house won’t be a part of the planned demolition, the city tells KPRC 2 that they will secure and monitor that property, along with his other houses across Houston.

Pfirman owns multiple properties across the Houston area and its surrounding counties.

KPRC 2′s Rilwan Balogun messaged with officials at Houston’s Department of Neighborhoods. Here’s what they said regarding the situation.

“Based on our history with Mr. Pfirman and the fact that he has failed to consistently operate in good faith as a property owner...We are working on the demolition of 11 of his properties that have passed the Demolition Assessment Panel.”

“The Department of Neighborhoods will secure the property so it is not open to the public and will continue to monitor the property for minimum standards compliance. We are pursuing demolition for other properties in the City of Houston, including some owned by Mr. Pfirman.”
