HOUSTON – Residents in Florida are bracing themselves for Hurricane Helene, which is expected to intensify into a monster storm.

Our Chief Meteorologist Anthony Yanez says Helene is expected to become a major category 4 hurricane. For that reason, CenterPoint Energy says it is deploying approximately 90 internal and contract resources to help assist Floridians with emergency response efforts.

“Mutual assistance is a critical and essential function of the industry and one that every utility relies on when responding to an emergency,” the energy giant said in a statement. “We are grateful to our mutual assistance partners who answered the call in the Greater Houston area’s time of need, and it is our commitment to do the same.”

Landfall is anticipated Thursday night in Florida, our KPRC 2 Storm Tracker team says.
