Chief Deputy Patin with Brazoria Co. Sheriff’s Office said it happened on Avenue C off Highway 35 a little after 9:15 a.m. when investigators got a call about a domestic disturbance involving a 36-year-old man fighting with his mother and grandmother.

Dispatch sent an officer with the Danbury Police Department to respond, and shortly after he got there, Chief Deputy Patin said the officer called for backup saying he was shot. The shooter had taken off by the time backup arrived and the unidentified officer was taken to a nearby trauma center, where at last check, was in serious condition.

Additionally, Chief Deputy Patin says a woman (either the mother or grandmother) was injured before police arrived, but it’s unclear who it was or what exactly caused the injury.

It took an exhaustive search to find the shooter, which Chief Deputy Patin said involved two helicopters, a DPS plane, a SWAT team, and resources from numerous departments throughout the region. He described the collaboration and how many agencies jumped in on the call as “Quite impressive.”

The shooter was found just before midnight and taken into custody we’re told about a half mile away from the scene. It’s unclear what charges he will be facing at this time.

Brazoria Co. Sheriff’s Office, Chief Deputy Patin said, is leading the investigation into the incident.
