HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – A Harris County woman is anxious and angry after a stray bullet came through her home and came dangerously close to striking her two sleeping children.
“I come into my restroom, I turn on the light and I see there’s glass, small pieces of glass all over the floor,” said Kathryn Gallagher.
Gallagher asked not to be on camera for safety reasons, but she says a bullet went straight through her bathroom mirror. It then traveled through her bedroom walls.
“It came through the bathroom wall, exit through my bedroom and then it went to the last wall of the bedroom,” she said.
The bullet is still lodged in the wall. Her 2-year-old son and 16-year-old daughter were both in the room at the time.
“She was sleeping right on the bed, went on top of her head,” Gallagher said.
Gallagher was not at home at the time of the shooting, but says her daughter heard nine shots early Sunday morning. She has since filed a report with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
Gallagher says the sheriff’s office believes the shots came from an empty lot behind her home where teenagers may have been playing with a gun. She says in her neighborhood in the East Aldine area, gunfire can be heard often. She is pleading with the community to be more careful.
“I can’t sleep, I don’t go to sleep until at least three in the morning, any noises that I hear I’m freaking out,” she said. “They need to think about the consequences of their actions. I just want them to understand the danger they are creating.”
