It happened a little before 2:30 a.m. when officials with Huntsville PD said they received a report of “suspicious activity” at the Bill Fick Ford Dealership. Responding officers said they found two people seen trying to steal taillights off trucks in the parking lot.

The two thieves then jumped into their car, took off, and tried running over the officers for trying to detain them. Huntsville PD confirmed the officers were not hurt.

Investigators say an officer tried to pull the thieves over, but they ended up going through Huntsville State Park, got out of their car, and ran away.

With help from K9 units with Montgomery County and the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, they were able to get the passenger but not the driver. Investigators described the driver as a man with a possible tattoo underneath his right eye who was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and matching shorts.

Police also say there is no sign of the thieves being armed and there’s not a threat to the public, but they are still actively searching for the second thief.
