Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez says Trooper Waters was conducting a traffic stop on Hwy 249 & Upland Willow in northwest Harris County just before 3 a.m. on Friday. That’s when another driver, possibly drunk, hit the trooper and kept driving for about a block before getting out of their car and taking off on foot.

Harris Co. deputies caught up to the suspected drunk driver and put him in handcuffs. They were also rushed to a hospital for an evaluation.

Meanwhile, Trooper Waters, with the Texas DPS’ southeast division, was rushed to Memorial Hermann in serious condition. His family members told the Texas DPS they are “in great spirits” and thankful for the support they’ve received from law enforcement officials and the hospital staff.
