Third arrest made in 2018 shooting death of 75-year-old outside SE Houston grocery store

HOUSTONHouston police have arrested a third gunman in connection to the 2018 fatal shooting of a 75-year-old man in a grocery store parking lot, but one remains at large.

Darius Limar Sonnier, 25, was charged with capital murder for his role in the death of That Huu Le, who was gunned down on January 20, 2018.

BACKGROUND: 2nd suspect charged for role in 2018 shooting death of 75-year-old man outside SE Houston H-E-B parking lot, police say

Johntiz Robertson and Reginald Hawkins are charged with capital murder, along with Sonnier, for their roles in shooting Le in broad daylight in the 9200 block of Blackhawk Boulevard near Hobby Airport.

What happened?

The shooting happened just after 1:05 p.m. on January 20, 2018, when Le was followed by suspects in a gold-colored sedan to the H-E-B parking lot. Surveillance video shows Le parking his white Lexus SUV before being confronted by one of the suspects. A fight broke out, and Le was shot several times.

Le was rushed to an area hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

HPD’s Homicide Division detectives worked for months to identify the suspects. Hawkins, already in custody for an unrelated charge, was the first to be charged with capital murder on June 1, 2018. Robertson was later apprehended on June 17, 2022, and faced the same charge. On Sept. 25, Sonnier, who is currently in federal custody for an unrelated offense, was named a third suspect in the deadly attack.

One additional suspect remains at large, and authorities are actively seeking information about his identity.

Police are urging anyone with information about the case or the unidentified suspect to contact the HPD’s Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS (8477). Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to the arrest of the remaining suspect.
