THIRD WARD – A man has been arrested and charged in a deadly crash that killed a 72-year-old woman in Third Ward. The driver, now identified as 49-year-old Alexandre Segal, was charged with intoxication manslaughter.

Houston police say the crash happened on Saturday around 2:20 a.m. in the 2300 block of Scott Street near I-45. According to investigators, Segal was driving a red Toyota Tundra pickup truck in the southbound lanes on Scott Street when he rear-ended a red Toyota Corolla.

Police say the impact of the initial crash caused Segal’s truck to go up onto the sidewalk, hitting a woman who was believed to be sleeping. The woman, identified as Ethel Evans, 72, died at the scene. No one else was injured.
Investigators say Segal showed signs of intoxication and was booked into the Harris County Jail. He now faces one count of intoxication manslaughter and was given a $100,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear back in court October 30.
