When deputies arrived, they found the vehicle, but no one was inside. As they investigated, they learned the vehicle belonged to a 71-year-old woman, who had been reported missing out of Harris County.

Deputies checked the area as best they could, but with darkness setting in, they called for additional resources to conduct a larger search.

Texas DPS, the Gonzales Fire Department, and Texas Parks and Wildlife Game Wardens responded to assist, bringing a UTV and drone to aid in the search.

The Texas Department of Emergency Management also came to offer any needed resources.

The Texas Department of Criminal Justice, upon request, sent two tracking canines from the Travis County State Jail.

Following a lengthy search by both ground and air, the woman was found in a thickly wooded area around 2:05 a.m. Wednesday. The sheriff’s office said she was alert and speaking with rescuers.

“Gonzales EMS transported her to Gonzales Memorial Hospital for evaluation and her family was notified that she was safe,” the sheriff’s office said.
