HOUSTON, Texas – During the closing arguments in the sentencing phase of the Harding Street murder trial, Gerald Goines suffered a medical emergency and had to be escorted out of the courtroom.
As prosecutors started their closing arguments during the sentencing phase, Goines started exhibiting signs of distress, including heavy breathing while looking visibly unwell. He motioned to a bailiff to help him and then he was seen being held up by multiple officers and escorted out of the courtroom.
This incident prompted Judge Veronica Nelson to order an immediate recess, stating that proceedings would resume after Goines’ health was assessed.
Court officers escorted him from the courtroom, and he was then seen being transported by ambulance from the Harris County Criminal Courthouse.
KPRC 2 documented the scene, capturing images of Goines slumped over with medical equipment attached to his chest.
