Columbia-Brazoria ISD bus driver receives citation after crash with dump truck

A Columbia-Brazoria Independent School District bus driver received a citation for disregarding a construction flagger’s stop sign following a collision between a school bus and a dump truck on Thursday morning.

According to Columbia-Brazoria ISD, the bus driver has been released from the hospital, and the student is expected to be discharged later Friday.

What happened?

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the crash happened around 6:45 a.m. at the intersection of County Road 353 and Highway 36.

The bus, carrying 34 high school students and one driver, was heading north when it collided with a dump truck traveling south in a construction zone.

The collision resulted in the hospitalization of the bus driver and one student, both of whom were airlifted for further treatment.

Dash cam footage from the bus shows how the incident happened.

All other students involved were evaluated on-site and either released to their parents or transported to school.

The investigation is ongoing.
