HOUSTON – A homeowner is lucky to have gotten out safely after his house caught fire in Fifth Ward overnight Friday but investigators say the home is a total loss and at least two cars in the area suffered damage because of the blaze.

It happened on Amboy & Lelia Street off Eastex Freeway a little after 1 a.m. when the Houston Fire Department said heavy flames were coming from the house, which extended to at least two vehicles on the property.
