HOUSTON – It has been one year since Hamas militants stormed across the border between Israel and Gaza.

The militants attacked multiple villages and towns in southern Israel. At least 1,200 people were killed and 250 people were abducted.

The attack became the deadliest in Israel’s history and led to a devastating war in Gaza and another front opening in the country’s north against Hezbollah in Lebanon.

In a show of solidarity with Israel and the Jewish community, the Jewish Federation of Greater Houston along with more than 40 Jewish non-profit organizations held a vigil at a southwest Houston synagogue.

The program’s theme was “Remembrance, Unity, and Hope,” and included songs, prayers, and remarks from local leaders.
