Authorities have charged a 25-year-old man with murder after he admitted to strangling a woman and dumping her body in a secluded area of Harris County.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office identified the suspect as 25-year-old Christopher Bernard, who was taken into custody on Oct. 4, after admitting to his involvement in the killing of 29-year-old Cortney Hall.

Investigators say Hall’s body appeared to have been at the location for several days.

Bernard reportedly met Hall, who was working as a prostitute, at a motel. According to authorities, during their encounter, an altercation broke out, leading Bernard to strangle Hall. He then transported her body from the motel and dumped it along Subsea, where it was discovered.

Bernard was charged with murder and tampering with evidence involving a human corpse. He is currently being held in the Harris County Jail on a $200,000 bond for the murder charge and an additional $100,000 bond for tampering with evidence.

According to court docs, officials have objected to Bernard being granted a personal bond, saying that Bernard recently completed a diversion program for solicitation of prostitution in April 2024 and is considered a danger to the community.

Bernard remains in jail, and no further information has been released at this time.
