SHELDON, Texas – A baby has a new chance at life after a little girl, who was only a few hours old, was given to Sheldon firefighters in northeast Harris County under a protected order.
It’s known as the Safe Haven Law or Baby Moses Law and it gives parents who are unable to care for their newborn child a safe and legal choice to leave their baby with an employee at a hospital, fire station, or emergency medical services station without the threat of being arrested or charged with a crime.
It was enacted to save newborn babies’ lives, and as KPRC 2′s Bill Spencer reports that law worked to perfection, all thanks to the quick action of the firefighters at the Sheldon Community Fire and Rescue Station One.
Fire chief Sidney Webb got an urgent phone call Monday morning from a desperate mother wanting to turn over her baby. The woman was crying, but what happened next saved her newborn baby’s life.
