HOUSTON – Houston Independent School District’s Houston Math, Science, and Technology Center High School was on lockdown Wednesday afternoon.
A senior official with HISD told parents who rushed to the school that everyone was safe.

“The incident occurred, not at the school, it was off-campus and they tried to come to the school,” said Dr. Emilio Castro, Senior Executive Director of Support for the district.
“So it wasn’t related to the school. We just always want to make sure that if can keep everyone safe, and our kids safe,” Castro said.
From SKY 2 aerials, students were lined up outside the school around 1:30 p.m.
Police also responded to the campus along Irvington Boulevard in the northside of the city.

Sam Houston Math, Science, and Technology Center High School families were informed that the school was placed on lockdown just before 11 a.m. as a precaution due to nearby police activity that ended outside the school. Students and staff are safe and the HISD PD have given all clear and the campus lockdown was lifted at 11:40 a.m.
HISD PD and HPD officers continue to patrol the area as a precaution.
Classes continue as scheduled, and students will be dismissed at normal time. "
