HOUSTON – Human remains discovered in a freezer inside a recently sold Colorado home have been identified.

On January 12, 2024, Mesa County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a suspicious incident at a residence on Pinyon Avenue. A person, who had arrived to claim a free appliance offered by the new homeowner, made a horrifying discovery -- a human head and hands inside the freezer.

Months later, on Oct. 11, the Mesa County Coroner’s Office confirmed the identity of the victim through DNA testing. The remains belonged to Amanda Leariel Overstreet, who was approximately 16 years old when she disappeared in April 2005 in Harris County.

Amanda was the biological daughter of the home’s previous owner, and there is no record that she was ever reported missing.

Authorities are now investigating the circumstances surrounding Amanda’s disappearance, with forensic testing ongoing to gather more evidence.

The investigation remains active as law enforcement continues to seek answers.
