The family of Jason Scott, one of the workers killed in last week’s chemical release at the PEMEX facility, has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the company and its partners.
The gas release, which happened on Oct. 10, killed two workers and injured dozens more, prompting shelter-in-place orders for the nearby cities of Deer Park and Pasadena.

The lawsuit, filed on behalf of Scott’s family, alleges that he “suffered fatal injuries and endured pain and suffering as he succumbed to the toxic gas” and claims that his “wife, children, and parents have been irreparably deprived of their beloved family member as a result of Defendants’ conduct.”
Attorney Kurt Arnold, representing Scott’s family, stated that the firm is also representing 11 other workers injured during the incident.
Another attorney involved in the lawsuits, Mo Aziz, shared concerns about the health impact on those exposed to the toxic gases.
“After the initial hospitalization they were discharged but are now following up with health care providers because the symptoms of hydrogen sulfide poisoning are shortness of breath, dizziness, vomiting, nausea, headaches some neurological dysfunction and they are all experiencing those symptoms,” said Aziz.
