HOUSTON – A 41-year-old man is facing multiple charges after leading League City police on a chase which went into the City of Houston Wednesday.

Police say officers pulled over a gray 2011 Audi Q7 at the Cracker Barrel located at 231 S. Gulf Fwy for a traffic violation. When officers spoke with Smith, they developed reasonable suspicion of narcotic-related activity. A K9 Unit was then requested at the stop location for assistance.

Before the K9 unit arrived, police say Smith drove away at a high rate of speed, initiating the chase. The chase went through League City, Webster, and into the City of Houston. The Houston Police Department’s helicopter unit and patrol officers, the Texas Department of Public Safety and several other agencies assisted during the pursuit.

“At approximately 3:58 p.m., the helicopter unit advised the Audi wrecked into two vehicles near the intersection of Gessner Rd and W Gulf Bank Rd in Houston. The Audi then came to a stop in the driveway of an apartment complex in the 7200 block of Gessner Rd. Smith exited the vehicle and began running through the complex and across Windfern Rd. DPS Troopers apprehended Smith in the 7100 block of White Oak Cir and placed him in custody at approximately 4:02 p.m. Smith was then transported by Cy-Fair Fire/EMS to a local hospital for medical evaluation/treatment,” the League City Police Department said.

Sky2 was flying over the scene Wednesday and captured images of Smith in handcuffs surrounded by police and DPS Troopers.
