HOUSTON – Sunday service at East Bethel Baptist Church started with song and prayer. Reverend Roland Mouton dedicated the service to his twin brother, Ronald Mouton. He was a reverend at the church, who was tragically murdered.
“The twin bond is a different bond and he and I were very close. We’ve shared everything from the womb to children, to college dormitory room, both in a ministry of travel and on trips together as preachers. Not having him, it’s been very devastating for my life,” said Roland Muton.
In June 2022, Mouton’s other half was taken from him in a possible road rage shooting. Investigators said an Uber driver named Deshawn Longmire, shot at Mouton’s car on the Gulf Freeway. Surveillance video showed Mouton’s white BMW veering off to the side of the road. Since then, Longmire has been out on bond. Records show he violated his bond by not obeying his curfew restrictions.
“Why should he be as free as me? Keep him locked up till he goes to trial. That’s what I want to see,” said Roland Mouton.
The trial was slated for September, but has been pushed back to April 2025.
“I’m under the impression it was delayed because the defense attorney was in a case that did not end in time to start our case,” said Mouton.
According to the motion of continuance filed, it states the motion is not made for purposes of delay but that justice may be done.
“Why couldn’t our case be his next case? Because it was supposed to be his next case, which just gives the defendant more free time. I mean, it’d be almost three years by the time he goes to trial,” said Roland Mouton.
Mouton said once the trial does happen, he hopes for justice for his twin brother.
