247Sports released a statement alleging that their Instagram account had been hacked after a post falsely claimed that University of Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers would sit out for the remainder of the 2024 college football season.

On Monday afternoon, the college athletics news source posted an image of the Texas Longhorns starting quarterback with a caption claiming he was opting out of the campaign to prepare for the 2025 NFL Draft.

The post was quickly deleted, but not before shocked college football fans had time to grab some screenshots.

Shortly after the news began circulating, Ewers seemingly dispelled the rumors by posting a clip of Former President Donald Trump saying “fake news” on his Instagram story.

247Sports also acknowledged that the post was not legitimate, apologizing for the scare and claiming that their account had been hacked in a brief message.

The report came after a disappointing weekend on the field for Ewers and the Longhorns. Top-ranked Texas hosted No. 5 Georgia in one of the most highly anticipated games of the college football season.

The Longhorns’ offense—which had looked borderline unstoppable heading into the matchup—was unable to gain traction, leading to Ewers being benched in favor of fan-favorite Arch Manning in the second quarter. Ewers would return as the starter in the second half and play the remainder of the game. He finished with 211 passing yards, two touchdown passes, and an interception in the 30-15 loss.

No. 5 Texas’ season will continue with a trip to Nashville to play No. 25 Vanderbilt on Saturday, Oct. 26. Kickoff is slated for 3:15. According to ESPN BET, Texas enters the matchup as 18.5-point favorites.
