Driver killed in Sugar Land, car splits in half after hitting pole, trees

SUGAR LAND, Texas – Authorities in Sugar Land say a driver died overnight Tuesday after crashing into a pole, causing them to be thrown from their car.

It happened on Eldridge and Sir Raleigh Way around 1:45 a.m. when police said they found the crashed-out vehicle and an unidentified driver dead from their injuries.

Based on the debris in the roadway and preliminary information provided, investigators said the driver hit a light pole and two trees, causing the vehicle to split in half due to the impact and throw the driver from the car.

It’s unclear what factors caused the crash but police are continuing their investigation.
