HOUSTON – Sunday night’s helicopter crash in Houston’s Second Ward happened in a primarily residential area and many people witnessed the incident.
Four people, including a child, were killed when the helicopter, operated by National Helicopter Solutions, crashed into a communication tower at Engelke Street and Ennis Street.
No one on the ground was hurt from the crash and the collapse of the tower which was hit. No structures on the ground other than the tower were damaged.
“We were very fortunate it didn’t topple one way or the other,” Houston Mayor John Whitmire said about the tower.
New surveillance video from the scene captured the flash of light from the explosion as well as people’s reactions upon seeing what was happening.
Vanessa Guzman, whose security cameras captured the video, said she and other members of her family had gotten together for dinner last night and were saying their goodbye’s when they heard the explosion.
In the video, you can hear people nearby screaming at the sight of the crash. The flash of light from the crash can be seen on the video.
