HOUSTON – Vice President Kamala Harris is in Houston this Friday, Oct. 25, for a last-minute campaign push before the general election on November 5.
It’s a notable move in a state that has been reliably conservative for more than 40 years.
The event will be held at the Shell Energy Stadium from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. It is part of the Democrats’ efforts to energize voters and encourage early voting.
Prominent leaders and celebrities, such as Beyonce, attending the event are expected to draw in a large crowd.
This will be Harris’ second visit to Houston this year, following her trip in July, when she participated in a series of events addressing key issues like voting rights and women’s health.
On Friday, Harris’ Houston trip will feature women who have been affected by Texas’ restrictive abortion laws, which took effect after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022. She has campaigned in other states with restrictive abortion laws, including Georgia, among the seven most closely contested states.
This visit is particularly significant as it marks the first time in 30 years that a presidential contender has campaigned in Houston so close to Election Day. Harris previously campaigned in Texas in 2020 during a three-city tour while running for vice president during the final week of early voting.
