More than 40 residents displaced after fire destroys apartments in Richmond

RICHMOND, Texas – Over 40 residents are without a home Thursday night after a fire destroyed about 20 rooms at an apartment in Richmond.

Firefighters said they were called to the apartment complex on Golfview Drive located further southwest of Houston, past Sugar Land around 9 p.m. When initial crews arrived, they had to call for additional reinforcements, prompting neighboring fire departments including Missouri City FD to assist.

The flames were contained to one building in the complex, that had about 20 units, investigators said. The building was completely destroyed, displacing about 40-45 residents.

Lt. Neinast with Richmond FD says no one was injured and it’s unclear what caused the fire at this time, but the American Red Cross would be assisting the displaced residents.
