Mother of Jocelyn Nungaray puts focus on daughter’s case, migrant crime at Trump rally in Austin

Alexis Nungaray admits she is not the person most would expect upon a first impression.

“I’ve got blue hair, tattoos. I don’t look like your average person that is on stage with Donald Trump,” the 27-year Latino-American mother said on Saturday afternoon.

The Houston mother found herself at a presidential rally in Austin on Friday, standing with Donald Trump, a man she has never voted for.

“We will never forget Jocelyn. We’re not going to, we have all seen her picture,” the former president said during the small rally inside of an airplane hangar.

Jocelyn Nungaray, Alexis’ daughter, is the 12-year-old girl who was murdered this past June under a bridge in north Houston.

The two men charged in her death? Venezuelan migrants who are being investigated for ties to the violent Venezuelan gang, Tren de Arangua.

“She’s had a big impact, Alexis, you know that right?” Trump said. “She’s had a big impact. Walked to a nearby convenience, Jocelyn was kidnapped, tied up, assaulted and I’m not going any further than that. I’m standing with her mother.”

Meanwhile, a few hours later back home in Houston, another mother, Grammy award-winning singer Beyonce welcomed Kamala Harris to town. The Vice President held a packed rally at the home of the Houston Dynamo where women’s freedom in Texas was the sole focus during her 28-minute speech.

However, the one topic not discussed has been a key focus for Nungaray and millions of voters, “To end migrant crime, to secure the border have better border policies in place,” said Nungaray.

These are unchartered waters for Nungaray.

“I was someone who was never really interested in politics,” the young mother said.

But it’s the political waters where she swims now after her daughter’s case was thrusted on the national stage. Nungaray tells KPRC 2 that she is noticing a difference.

“It is very surreal, because it truly makes me feel like Jocelyn is making change. She is the start to change. She is the start to making a difference in this country,” Nungaray said.

She added that she has been reached out to on multiple occasions by the Trump campaign but has not heard from current President Joe Biden or Vice President Harris.
