Several flights with Southwest Airlines that were scheduled to fly into Houston are diverting to other nearby cities due to an emergency at the William P. Hobby Airport.
The flights are instead landing in San Antonio, Austin and New Orleans.

The reason for the rerouting seems to be an emergency response to “hot brakes” at Hobby.
KPRC 2 reached out to the airport, and they provided us with the following statement:
“Around 4:50 p.m. there was an alert II for an aircraft that experienced “hot brakes” that generated an emergency response at Hobby airport. That alert was terminated around 7:10pm. During that time there might have been diversions. HOU is under normal operations since the alert was terminated. You might want to reach out to Southwest Airlines for additional information.”
KPRC 2 also reached out to Southwest for information. They provided us with the following statement:
“We had a plane with a minor maintenance issue that requiring towing to a gate. The other runway at Hobby is closed for construction, so we had to divert a few until the operable runway was cleared.
It is now and we’re getting those flights into Houston. The flight with the issue has departed after an aircraft swap.
Our apologies to the Customers affected by the brief delays. Safety is Southwest’s uncompromising top priority.”

WN554 from Denver
WN419 from Phoenix
