CHAMBERS COUNTY, Texas – A Chambers County judge set an April trial date for 49-year-old Sarah Hartsfield during a hearing Monday morning.

Hartsfield’s jury trial has been set for April 21, 2025, more than two years after her arrest. The Army veteran has maintained her innocence.

So far in the murder case, Hartsfield has had three different lead defense attorneys, with the latest taking over in August.

Joseph’s cause of death was ruled complications of the toxic effects of insulin after the diabetic’s sugar level dropped dangerously low. Prosecutors argue Hartsfield ignored a phone app sending alerts and waited an hour to call 911 after finding him unresponsive. Investigators found up to 10 insulin pens on his side of the bed.

In the days before he died, his family told KPRC 2 he was making plans to leave her, less than a year after the couple married.

Hartsfield fatally shot her fiancé David Bragg in May 2018 in a shooting Minnesota prosecutors ruled self-defense. After her Texas arrest, the case was re-opened, Douglas County Attorney Chad Larson told KPRC 2. To date, his office has not provided any updates.
